Wings
by Marguerite Alvis Venable
Bright wings
Sweeping
Radiant
Vivid in sunlight
Rush me away
I would fly on flashing wings
Into all-life
Gorge lustily
Gulping the burning wine of love
The smooth, round grapes
The pale globes of pears.
What is life
But giving and sharing love?
And why are men and women
But to know love?
Flashing wings
Bright
Carry me away to the secret places
Hushed
And let me love
